Garlic Benefits; Hair, Skin & Nails

Garlic has wonderful health and skin benefits. Garlic also has antifungal, anti-aging and skin smoothing benefits. Studies have found that garlic increases antioxidant levels and may possibly lower blood pressure and glucose levels.

Allicin is the compound in garlic that provides its health benefits, antibiotic and antifungal properties. The thing is that this compound is not present in garlic cloves it can only be produced when the garlic is finely chopped or crushed. If you want to reap the full benefits then immediately after crushing the garlic you have to use it. Allicin starts to degrade immediately after the garlic is chopped up. The finer it is chopped or crushed the better.

Garlic is no beauty secret to those in the Dominican Republic they have known and taken full advantage of its properties for years. No matter what product you are using the garlic in it is important to keep it securely closed for 7-10 days. This will allow the garlic to fully saturate the product and reach its full capacity in benefits.

Nails

Garlic is great if you want strong, long and hard nails. Choose a clear fingernail polish finely chop up the garlic and place in your fingernail polish. Keep the bottle securely closed for 7-10 days. (I use the garlic in a green tea nail strengthener I have.) I believe the garlic would just as effective even if you chose to put it in colored nail polish.

Skin

Garlic has actually been used to treat different skin problems. It will smooth your skin and make it healthy and shinier. The thing is that Allicin is very powerful and if you have put too much in and your skin is sensitive you could irritate your skin and possibly even burn. So do not overdue the garlic. I recommend a ½ of garlic clove. Seal closed for 7-10 days.

Hair

Garlic helps your hair grow and adds shine and luster. It is said to nourish hair because it stimulates blood flow in the scalp. It adds body and can result in a fuller hair. Garlic also helps relieve dry hair and an itch scalp. You may choose to use a clove of garlic in either your shampoo or conditioner.  I add garlic to my GarnierFructis pure clean conditioner. I am curly girl and I don’t use the garlic conditioner all the time. Once or twice a month I take the garlic conditioner and add honey to use as a deep conditioner because as you know the smell can be overpowering. ( I leave it in for 30 minutes tops) The smell doesn’t bother me as much as other people after the 2nd day I don’t even smell it anymore.  Securely close bottle for 7-10 days. One more thing you can purchase garlic shampoo online or a beauty store and it is unscented

Insect Repellent

Garlic is also used as an insect repellent to ward off insects. It isn’t really known why but possibly the smell influences them to steer clear or the smell is so overpowering they cannot find their victim. (Us) Either way it really works. You can take a garlic vitamin a day or use the garlic lotion but at least by taking the vitamin daily you don’t have to smell like Italian food all summer. One more think i put garlic in my dogs mane and tails shampoo and it got rid of their fleas best home remedy ever.
